Turquoise

I love turquoise! How can you not? It’s bright and cheerful and for me, it’s a color that makes me happy whenever I wear it. Since Spring is making an appearance I thought I would share this great outfit and of course, showcase the jewelry! The sweater can provide a quick fix to those evenings when there is still a chill in the air. The bag is practical and again providing a lovely pop of color to the neutral tones of the outfit. The Dream Catcher earrings reflect every color in the rainbow and the Gateway bracelet is a fun, sparkly stretch bracelet. Comfortable for work and play!

In a nutshell

I realized recently that my last blog was over a month ago, yikes!! I’m not really sure where the time has gone and why  it’s been so long since the last one, but lots of things have happened since then.

First of all, my hubby and I have been doing boot camp classes. That goes along with our weight loss challenge that we have with my in-laws and with our own weight loss goals. My hubby has lost an amazing 22 lbs!!! I, on the other hand, am down only 6.3 lbs. BUT, after several years of only seeing weight gains and trying to figure out what my thyroid medicine dosage needs to be, ANY loss is a win in my book!!!

That was the good news. Now, on to the not-so-good news. I lost my sweet Grandmother and am actually in FL to attend her funeral. She is my first close relative that I’ve lost and it’s been a roller coaster of emotions. To top it off, my Grandfather was rushed to the ER a week to the day after she was. Needless to say, we’ve all been holding our breath as we see what twists and turns his health might take. I cannot believe that I’ve lost part of such a wonderful couple. They were married 64 years! Can you imagine? I hope to be that lucky.

Hopefully once I get home and get back into the swing of things, I’ll be blogging more often. So, until then…

Organizing Tips | Makeup Makeover

Do you ever stop and take stock of your makeup collection? Do you tend to buy the same shades of lipstick, lip gloss and nail polish just in different brands? Guilty! I do that a lot. So much so that my husband has even called me out on it. We’ll be at Walgreen’s and I will be over looking at all of the polish. I gravitate towards reds and vibrant pinks for my toes. He’ll see me pick up a bottle and in a very matter-of-fact way, remind me that I have a similar shade (or two) at home.

I never knew that all make up has an expiration date. I mean, it makes total sense, but I just never thought of it before. I have noticed it either stamped on the item itself or on the packaging. Mascara has a smaller lifespan, than say lipstick, because it is closer to the eyes. Mascara should have a 3-4 month shelf life. I’ve gotten into the habit of writing in a sharpie, the date that I purchase (ie 1/12). That helps me remember when I need to replace it.  Looking at some of my other beauty products, I noticed that my face lotion has about a 12 month shelf life and perfumes have three years.

I have to admit that I am guilty of hanging on to Bath and Body Works products for far too long. I see their sale and stock up, only to find that I don’t really like or use their products too much. They have too much alcohol in them and therefore, dry my skin out. I’m also guilty of hanging on to perfume for too long. I just threw away a bottle of the perfume I wore I my wedding day. I just celebrated my twelve-year anniversary!

So,  I challenge you to rummage through your stash and weed out all of the old, expired or tired items you are holding on to. And don’t be sad to see them go. That just means you get to have fun replacing them all!!

Organizing Tips | Declutter Your Home

Bedroom Closet: Reverse Clothes-Hanger Trick

Turn all the clothes hanging in your closet so that the hangers face back-to-front. For the next six months, if you wear an item of clothing, return it to the closet with the hanger facing the correct way. If you try it on but decide not to wear it, make sure you put it back with the hanger turned backward—no cheating. Be prepared for a shock; you are going to find you own lots of clothes you have no use for. You should seriously consider getting rid of anything you don’t wear regularly.

What a great idea! I will for sure be doing this. I often stand in my closet feeling that I have a closet full of nothing to wear. This will be proof positive of 1) my go-to pieces that I wear consistantly and 2) the items that I truly never wear and wouldn’t miss if I were to pass them on to someone else.

What do you think about this trick? Do you think you’ll be trying this, as well? Let me know if you do!

Fashion Friday | Contemporary

Starting with my new blog format I’ve decided that the post a day challenge last year was something that I just couldn’t keep up with consistently. So, this year, I’m going to do the post a week challenge instead. There might be some weeks that I’ll post more than just once, but at least this way, I can be sure that I hit that goal and not run out of fun things to share with everyone. Having said that, I’m going to start Fashion Fridays. That’s when I’ll share something fun from the fashion world. It may be celebrity fashion or maybe a recreation of an outfit with my fun jewelry line accessories.

Today, I’m staring this awesome new bangle bracelet from our new Spring Jewelry Collection. It’s called Contemporary. I LOVE IT!!! I have smaller wrists but when I saw this, I knew I was buying it. Contemporary is a hinged bangle and it is very comfortable to wear too.

The shiny silver finish is nice and can be worn with a more casual outfit to run errands on the weekend, or even dressed up and worn to the office. Either way that you decide to wear it will work and that’s what I love most about this jewelry.

What do you think of Contemporary?

New Year, New Blog

This is starting out to me a new year full of lots of new things. One of which is a new blog design. What do you think? I’m contemplating changing up some of the content as well and once I have those changes nailed down, I’ll announce it. Until then, thank you for following me and for your continued support!

New kicks

So, as you know, I’ve started a healthier lifestyle since ringing in 2012. I’ve been eating better, taking boot camp classes and keeping a food log. So far, my weight number has not changed too awful much, but my clothes are fitting a whole lot better and I’ll take that any day!!

To go along with those changes here are some other changes I’ve made since January 1st:

-continuing on my no diet coke resolution from last year,

-drinking only water, tea or coffee (in the morning only),

-walking my dog more,

-subscribing to better magazines like Clean Eating, to promote better food choices,

-cleaned out my pantry of all the junk food,

-incorporated more fruits and veggies into my diet.

So, to keep up my “new year, new me motto,” I decided that 6 years was long enough to go without a new pair of tennis shoes. As you can see, I didn’t hold back and went bold and bought these from Under Armour. It is a bit of an adjustment to see such bright shoe laces at 4:30am when I get up to go to boot camp, but they are so incredibly comfortable. I haven’t tried running in them, but I’m curious to see how they compare to my last pair of running shoes.

What kind of workout/running/tennis/cross training shoes do you like best?
